Me in a nutshell

My photo
Pretty much every morning I get up at sunrise and take a walk with my dog.I like a big cup of coffee in the morning and a cold beer in the evening.I enjoy building stuff and for sure over my life have made more than my fair share of sawdust. Now I love to paint. It all started in July of 2009 when I took a painting class at the local art co-op.

Mixing it Up

Oil over Acrylic 8X10 inches

Using acrylic paint as an underpainting for an oil painting? I heard about it, then read about it and so now I tried it and I like it.
The book said that advantages are that acrylics dry quick even when applied thick with lots of texture. Here I used acrylics to give rugged texture to the rocks and cliffs with criss cross brushstrokes using a cheap course brush. Then floated over with a lighter colour in oil.The blue sky and blue water is smooth acrylic and the white over is oil.
I'm going to try a lot more paintings with textured acrylic underpainted backgrounds then oil on top
I also used some of this new tube of Gamblin grey oil paint I was given .I guess Gamblin mixes all their left over paints into a grey and give the tubes to art stores to give away.I have never used greys before(intentially) but read and found true its usefull for dulling colours especially greens for a smokey in the distance look, works great when using my new super soft fluffy fan brush I bought in Oz that lets me float colour on and over by barely touching the canvas -como  Pekel
A fun filled rainy morning and stuck inside.
I love it.
