Me in a nutshell

My photo
Pretty much every morning I get up at sunrise and take a walk with my dog.I like a big cup of coffee in the morning and a cold beer in the evening.I enjoy building stuff and for sure over my life have made more than my fair share of sawdust. Now I love to paint. It all started in July of 2009 when I took a painting class at the local art co-op.

I did this watercolour on 300 lb 11"X16" Canvas from my canoe. It was great no solvents and water all around for dipping a brush
The same day I did this of the new inlet bridge. Its also watercolour 11"X16"
Watercolours are great for plein air- A lot less stuff to hump around.

bridge by laramie

                                                                     OIL 16"X20"
Park and walk under the trestle and on the other side is an historic old army fort from the cowboy days. Not a sole around so we hung out and took a nap before heading back to the main road east.

I have had a few friends ask why I don't post on my blog anymore so here are a few of the latest paintings. Its been about 2 years since I posted so a lot of paintings that I don't have photos of will be forgotten.

Light before the storm

                                                                    OIL 8"X10"

This was done from a day that was cloudless sunny and cold.  The painting looked kind of boring ,just another Lighthouse and lay for about a month, in my pile of "not happy with" canvases.Today I added some storm clouds and moved it to the I'm satisfied pile.

It snowed here last night and this is what our local pond looked like with snow and ice forming on it.

The bridge everyone is talking about

OIL 16"X20"

I forgot I had this photo of the cloud I painted from the breakwater. This cloud was kind of invented from the mess of clouds floating overhead
The bridge was painted over the cloud from the end of the catwalk
I painted the bridge a bit wonky but they say it may fall in soon anyway-so what the heck

Back in the studio I added some waves and did a titanium wash over the clouds water and bridge to add some depth

Plein Air by Canoe

Lately I have been doing a lot more painting outside live. Canoe and paints and a fishing rod can take care of a fun few hours in no time flat

I painted the canoe in the middle of the picture which from what I have read and been told  is not a good idea. So back on the boat I painted the canoe out.
Finished piece below.

Pink cabin at sunset

OIL 9"X12"

I did this one outside at sunset.
After a hard day of fun in the sun its nice to find a quite cool spot and enjoy a beer whilst splashing paint on a canvas. As soon as I saw this pink house I knew I had to have a go at it

I made some changes and republished it

Mermaids are not scaly all over

                                                               OIL 16"X20"

We stuck, nor breath nor motion
 calm as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
 Sam Coleridge

It was day 32 of a long passage when I saw my first mermaid..
For the last 7 days we had been becalmed on a dead still ocean. Not knowing how long we would be trapped without wind, without motion  we had no choice but to ration water.
In the boring heat of the day, and misty headed with thirst I was staring into the depths when I saw her.
The wind came up that night and my mermaid was left behind forever.

I have never seen another Mermaid at sea
I painted this from memory.

No wind yesterday which is rare around here so I went to paint outside.
I planned on doing an easy quick landscape painting.
I found a quite spot with no people around until this guy showed up with his throw net.
